In a nutshell, the way a Clickbank transaction works is like this….

You have your sales page (this is like your shop window) where people from the Internet turn up at your site to view your product. You will need to have a fabulous sales pitch to entice the buyer.. you can do through doing a variety of psychological tactics… create an urgency (i.e. sell a limited number of copies, inform the buyer that the price is going to go up etc), people like to buy if other people are buying (do this by getting testimonials from other buyers, if you are selling loads inform that you are selling x copies every minute etc.. people don’t like to be left behind, if other people are buying, they want to get in on it) – this art of creating a good pitch is called Copywriting. Your webpage also has a link to buy the product you’re selling. The buyer is redirected to the Clickbank payment page. The user puts in their payment and if successful, they will be redirected to your ‘Thank You’ page. Your thank you page is called this as you would put in a message such as ‘thank you for your purchase’ and then have a link to your electronic product which the user will click on to download. The problem with the thank you page is that unless you know how to protect it adequately, people can link directly to your thank you page by sending to their friends or posting in on a website. Even worse, if it appears on a search engine such as Google, people will be able to download your product for free.

There are two things you need to do here to protect your electronic from being stolen. The first, which is every easy to implement, is to put in ‘no follow’ and ‘no link’ tag to your thank you page. This will stop the search engines from indexing and your page appearing on search engines.

The other thing to do is to protect your thank you page so that it can only be accessed when someone has actually purchased your product. Therefore, even if they send the link to your thank you page around, when they arrive to download your product, if they haven’t paid, then there is no page to be seen.
